The frame of the door is a crucial component in allowing the door to function properly. A frame that is damaged can be a safety hazard as the door is secured onto the frame and a damaged frame pose a risk that the door might fall off its placement.
Some common damages that occur to the door include:
- Water damaging the door frame. Especially so for the toilet door. Other possible reason for this is because of floor washing which causes the water to seep into the bottom of the frame.
- Termite damaging the door frame which is also common and will spread fast if not taken care of.
- Door frame that has loosened over time due to wear and tear.
For water damaged frame we can do a replacement of the rotten part of the frame only or the entire frame depending on the extent of the damage. however, do note that a partial replacement would not be as aesthetically pleasing as a full replacement.
For termite attack, we would only do a full replacement of the door frame that is damaged by termite and the killing off of the termite either before or after the frame is replaced. We would usually do it after unless because of urgent reason or otherwise advised by the pest control company.
As seen from the photo above the frame is replaced only using back the old door. We would usually try to match the colour by 90%. This is true for both the frame as well as the door frame skirting that is outside of the frame.
For door frames that has loosen off the wall, we do have specialise tools so as to nail back the door in most cases. In some case, we might have to drill the wood of the frame which would cause damage to the frame.
For fire rated door frame, the replacement would require the entire set of the door and frame as required by BCA. Fire-rated doors are usually only used for the main doors for private homes.
