Glass Door Alignment

A very common issue that occurs for any type of glass door is for the alignment of the glass to go off. This is true for both shower glass door to the lobby glass door you would see in commercial building or for sliding glass door that partitions the area in a home or office.

The cause of the mis-alignment can vary, usually dependent on the system that is being used.

Shower Glass door: For shower glass door it is most likely the hinges that is attached to another fix panel or glass or attached to the wall that is causing the issue. In most cases the rubber lining on the inside has disintegrate causing the grip to loosen.
Sliding Glass Door: Sliding glass door usually use a top roller system and misalignment in the system would cause the glass to sag making it hard to pull or push.
Swing Door in buildings: this is the most complicated among all as there are lots of variation. Still in most case the alignment would go off becoz of the top holder having issues. For example a crack in the holder or loose screw

FloorSpring Replacement For Door Swinging Fast

If you have a glass door that is slamming too fast all of a sudden, it is likely that it is time for a replacement of your floor-spring. Glass door floor-spring is a mechanism that allows for the glass door to swing back to its original position on its own in a controlled manner to the close position after the door is opened.

This is to prevent the glass from swinging back too fast and hitting onto someone. This is especially common in commercial units such as shopping malls and office. Overtime, the main culprit of defect is the oil seal. A crack in the seal would cause the oil to leak out which would require a replacement of the entire unit to resolve the issue.

The replacement of the spring can be done usually within 2 hours time frame and would involve the removal of the entire glass door. As such, for high traffic areas where such glass doors repair are usually involve, we would need help from the management for crowd control.

When does your floor spring require replacement?

Typically when your door is closing very fast or what can be described as without control or when you see oil leaking our from it.

Another variation which we can see occasionally is the spring that is attached to the glass instead of being embedded into the floor.

As shown in the video. the spring itself is attach to the glass and the holder is on the floor.

Both serves the same purposes and that is to soft close the door. However, the one embedded into the floor is recommended for high usage area while the other, is meant for places where hacking the floor is not an option.

Glass Door Hinge Replacement and Repair

Glass door works just like any other doors whereby it has to be secured by a mechanism to a wall. For a sliding glass door, it is usually by clamp which are attached to a roller while for swing glass door the mechanism that is commonly used are called glass door hinges.

As with any mechanical parts, such glass door hinges are prone to wear and tear. The issue is a malfunctioned glass door hinge can bring with it certain amount of risk.

As shown in the image, there are springs within a glass door hinges which can rebound and thus hit the glass causing it to shatter.

Beside that such glass door hinges are commonly used for shower door and also the main door of a commercial unit where traffic is high. As such a damaged hinge can be dangerous.

We do replacement of damaged hinges for both commercial and residential unit as well as alignment of glass door (which happens when the hinges are loose causing the glass to sag down).

For such replacement, the main consideration is the hole that has been pre cut in the door. As shown in the image below, you will notice 2 hole right at the edge of the glass door .

As the hole in the glass door cannot be altered, a hinge with correct measurement is needed to ensure that the glass is held securely to prevent any mishap from happening.

For most replacement, the work can be done within an hour to two, mainly depending on the alignment which has to be redone as both hinges are removed from the door.

A minimum of 2 technician is required to do the work for safety reason as we are dealing with glass which has a risk of shattering.

Upon replacement, the warranty period for the labour is 3 months. However, it is highly unlikely that we would be called back for the next couple of years for another glass door hinge replacement work as such hinges would not malfunction that frequently.
